Simon Wu
Now
- Moved to Redwood City to intern at Snowflake, where
I make queries go faster.
We do a lot of AI coding and also a lot of complaining about AI slop at the same
time.
- Still a student at the University of Waterloo, majoring in Computer Science as
well as Combinatorics and Optimization.
- Trying to be healthier (sleep better, lose weight, etc).
Things are only going OK - moving here from Ontario was very disruptive, and
there's always so much to see and do in the Bay Area, so I find it hard to stay
locked in.
- Recently got into Dead by Daylight.
Much like Overwatch, it's existed for much
longer than it should have by not shooting itself in the foot as hard as its
competitors (1,
2,
3,
4, many more examples).
Soon
- Will be working at Atoms in September in Mountain View.
- Graduating from Waterloo, hopefully next May.
If you're interested in hiring me check out my resume.
Past
- Co-op has brought me to many places, such as:
- Squint (San Francisco) for manufacturing intelligence, industrial AI and tribal knowledge capture.
- Invision AI (Toronto) for computer vision systems for safety and alerting in transportation and logistics.
- Huawei Canada R&D (Waterloo, Markham) for distributed database systems and privacy protection.
- Attended a couple of the ratcamps, including SPARC 2022 (Berkeley) and ASPR 2024 (Taoyuan).
- Briefly ran the Effective Altruism Club at UWaterloo, and received a
Coefficient Giving (previously Open
Philanthropy) University Organizer Fellowship.
- Competed in the International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics in
2021
and 2022.
